Seed #3

Dear Children,

Keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

1 John 5:21 NLT

There is a verse in Proverbs 4 that warns us to guard our hearts “above all else…” but there’s also a verse in Jeremiah 17 that says the heart is “deceitful” and “desperately wicked…”

How in the world can we guard something that is hopelessly broken in today’s fallen world??

Is there any hope?

is there any reason to go to the trouble of even trying?

Yes, there is hope. When we ask the Lord, who created our hearts (not for evil even though we’ve all sinned), to take His rightful place in our hearts, we can then lean in to and relax trusting Him to ensure that what flows out of our hearts now is pure and life-giving. He is pure. His love for us is only pure. He’s the Only One qualified to sit on the throne of our heart. He won’t lead us wrong and He’s perfectly UN-selfish.

Jesus says “Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest.”

Trust Him with your whole heart today. Stay away from anything that would pull Him away from your heart.
